0×00 hours. Nothing says welcome quite like the cold cathode glow at an empty airport early in the morning.
With legendary Swiss efficiency, we were deposited at this terminal in Zurich, and we made equally smooth progress through security to await our connecting flight. Moderate disorientation held in check by the right angled rigor of this airport architecture, I proceeded to pace the length of the terminal, which, by now, hosted a smattering of fellow wanderers. The gentle hum of ventilation systems gave voice to the flecks of snow blowing about in the air outside. The obligatory airport art installation, generally unnoticed but always on call, was a nice counterpoint to the shuttered aisles of duty-free. Below is documented this early morning experience, part 01.
