Real / Natural / Cardboard

As we’ve become adept at producing heirloom tomatoes that have as much flavour as the paper bag they’re packed in, it feels good to know that there are still products that capture the essence of the tomato flavour as I remember it – and they’re completely artificial.

Clearly, we’re in a transitional phase : we do not need real products to taste good because the synthetic counterparts now taste better. What would you rather have – delicious looking yet insipid heirloom tomatoes at Whole Foods for $4.99/lb or permanently fresh, hermetically sealed packs of Tomato Pretz in an attractive box?
